Lots happens throughout the year in the Lewes area and here we point you in the right direction to help you find the events that will make your camping trip in Sussex a roaring success. Events happening early in the year are at the top so scroll down for events that are happening later in the year and when you get to the bottom of the page click earlier items to see what else is happening later in the year.

Childrens food festival in Brighton

Our children’s food activities continue on from Friday with lots of free interactive workshops and activities to challenge young people on their food choices. Are you a brave eater?

A parent or guardian must remain with their children at all times at this event. Our workshops, performances and interactive activities are all free to participate in. Food and drink will be available to purchase, and there is an additional cost for any fairground rides (of which a donation will be made to the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity).

Hove Lawns is 9 miles from the Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

South Of England Show 2015

If you love the countryside, animals, shopping, food & drink and world-famous entertainers, you won’t want to miss the South of England Show. This year our flagship event, which takes place a little later than usual on Thursday 11th, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June, is bigger and better than ever.

Ardingly is 11 miles from the Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Love Supreme 2015

The Love Supreme Jazz festival combines a classic jazz bill with a modern boutique, green field experience. Set against the gorgeous backdrop of Glynde Place in Sussex and in association with Jazz FM, Love Supreme brings together 3 days of artists from the four corners of the world of Jazz; from Funk to Soul, Blues to Fusion. Four stages host a diverse and premium bill that  combines jazz greats, international legends, contemporary soul artists, cutting edge artists and the finest DJ’s.

Secret Wildlife Festival 2015 SOLD OUT

Its all systems go as we team up with Sussex Wildlife Trust for our annual wildlife festival run by Michael Blencowe and his team. Last year we saw a huge range of species and were treated to a fantastic astronomy talk and slide show. Weekend agenda to be published shortly.

Summer on the Lewes downs

At the height of summer the South Downs are alive with wild flowers, butterflies, beetles, bees and other insects. We’ll take a stroll through our Southerham reserve to Oxteddle Bottom searching for wildlife along the way. Will we encounter the amazing hornet robberfly? The beautiful Adonis blue? The round-headed rampion?

Lewes is  5 miles from the Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Exploring the Lewes downs

A guided walk looking at the history, archaeology, wildlife and management of this area of the South Downs National Park. We’ll take a circular hike from Lewes around our Southerham reserve, Saxon Down and Mount Caburn. Please bring lunch for a picnic stop at the top of Caburn. 7km walk with some steep slopes.

Lewes is 5 miles from the Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Firle Place Country Fair

Saturday August 30th 2014
The International Horse Trials on Saturday August 31st includes the CIC* dressage, and exciting cross country action, as well as some excellent shopping, including over 40 Weald Crafts exhibitors and trade stands (£5 a car including all occupants)

Sunday August 31st 2014
On Sunday September 1st, in addition to the above we host the Country Fair and Firle Dog Festival – (£10 per car including all occupants)

Lewes October Feast 2015

The OctoberFeast look out for copies in Viva Lewes, or pick up a copy from one of our many supportive shops and restaurants in Lewes and Brighton. If you can’t wait to get your hands on a paper version, the full programme is available to read online here, and smartphone users can also keep in the know by downloading the free OctoberFeast app. For our sixth festival our programme of over sixty events includes 15 pop-up suppers and counting, with more being included as we get closer to the opening week, . Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival

The Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival is the largest festival of its kind in the south of England, running every Easter and for ten days in September.

With local producers, growers, restaurants, bars and food retailers firmly at it’s heart, it’s a showcase of the fantastic food, drink and hospitality to be found in the city and surrounding Sussex.

The festival takes place around Brighton and Hove which is 13 miles from The Secret Campsite in East Sussex

What time: 6th-27th April

The Mysterious Moon Twilight Workshop

Why is the Moon so important to us? How was it made? Why did we land there? Learn all about our satellite including its many features. Make fantastic craters and hopefully examine some real Moon rock. You will also get to look through the giant telescopes (weather permitting) not necessarily at the Moon though because you will find out out exactly why the Moon is so mysterious and why sometimes you cannot see it at all in the nightl! The event takes place at the Observatory at Hurstmonceux
