Lots happens throughout the year in the Lewes area and here we point you in the right direction to help you find the events that will make your camping trip in Sussex a roaring success. Totepool Easter Sunday Family Raceday 2015

Enjoy a great Family Day out at our Totepool Easter Family Festival with Live Music, Face Painting, a Traditional Funfair, Easter Egg give away and much more. Admission tickets include race programme and car parking. Children under 18 accompanied by an adult go free. Advance purchase closes six days prior to the event.

Plumpton Racecourse is 7 miles away from the Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Welcoming in the Wheatears

Wheatears are among our first migrant birds to return from Africa. Be part of the welcoming committee as we search for them on the South Downs at Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Southerham reserve. Learn more about this amazing bird and its journey. 4km walk with one hill.

The Bluebell Railway’s Diesel Weekend

From Friday 17th – Sunday 19th April we will be visited by two “Deltic” diesel locomotives. They will haul trains on our service two timetable (see below)between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead for three days only.

Sheffield Park Station is 5.5 miles away from The Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Summer migrant birds return to Lewes

As our summer migrant birds return to Sussex we’ll search for them as we head down the Ouse from Lewes to Southease. Flat hike, 6km. At Southease we can catch the train back to Lewes (£2.60) or, if we have to wait, have some tea and cake in the Youth Hostel Café.

Southease is 9 miles from The Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Brighton Foodies Festival 2015

Foodies Festival, the UK’s biggest celebration of food and drink, returns to Hove Lawns this May Bank Holiday launching their 10th anniversary celebrations with celebrity chefs, new tasting theatres and more street food than you can shake a satay stick at.

Brighton is 12.5 miles away from The Secret Campsite in East Sussex.

Brighton Fringe 2015

Brighton Fringe is the largest arts festival in England and one of the largest fringe festivals in the world. It sets out to stimulate, educate and entertain a wide audience by providing a showcase for diverse art forms. Everyone can take part, in fact, whilst enjoying a friendly and supportive environment. And all this in an iconic city with unique cultural heritage.

Spring butterflies of the South Downs national park

Join us as we go in search of skippers, blues and hairstreaks and other butterflies on the Lewes Downs. 3km walk with some slopes. This guided walk is part of our Southerham Barn project supported by the South Downs National Park Authority’s Sustainable Communities Fund and is a free event.

Elderflower Fields festival 2015

Family festival on the 22 May to the 25th. Filled with activities of all kinds and live music in the days and evenings.

Holiday activities at Herstmonceux Observatory

In addition to the interactive hands-on exhibits there will be daily telescope tours and spectacular science shows. These are included in your admission price for the observatory.

Meet the Sheep Half-Term Family Event

With lambing season underway here’s a great opportunity to get close to the latest additions to our flock. Meet our hard-working sheep, sheepdogs and staff and learn more about how they are all working to improve the South Downs for wildlife and people. We’ll walk from Lewes to Southerham Barn; the base for Sussex Wildlife Trust’s conservation grazing operation. (1km each way, one hill). For those with mobility issues please contact us for an alternative route.
